Mar 9 – Apr 21, 2024
Border(less) seeks to confront the pressing global issue of migration, inspired by alarming statistics and events that have reshaped the world in recent years.
Border(less) addresses the multifaceted nature of migration, exploring the experiences of individuals forced to leave their homes and navigate the challenges of assimilation and adaptation. Whether by choice or force, people in search of a new home strive to reconstruct their lives, reclaim their identity, and establish connections in unfamiliar territories. This exhibition centers on the struggles inherent in this process — finding a new place, navigating transitions, and blending into new environments.
Set within the vibrant MassArt x SoWa gallery in Boston’s South End, a confluence of diverse communities, Border(less) features artists from around the world. These creatives tackle themes including displacement, national identity, immigration, nomadism, and family histories. The United States, a home for some and a new home for others, becomes a focal point for artistic exploration.
The artworks showcased in Border(less) span a variety of mediums, including lens-based art such as photography and video, as well as painting, collage, sculpture, and site-specific installations. Each artist contributes a unique perspective to the overarching narrative, inviting visitors to engage with the ongoing struggles of relocation and belonging. Border(less) encourages contemplation on the escalating challenges of migration, emphasizing the urgency of addressing these issues on both a global and personal scale. The exhibition aspires to spark conversation and reflection on the shared human experience of searching for home, connection, and belonging.
