Laura Sofía Pérez
I’m interested in phenomenological philosophy, feminist and avant-garde cinema, and Caribbean post-colonial theory. My work often takes the form of multi-channel video and film installation and deals with themes of family history, displacement, and in-betweenness. In my recent work I have been studying the symbolism and history of rivers and oceans, particularly as they relate to my cultural inheritance, indigenous mythology, and my experience as a Puerto Rican from the diaspora. I have recently been experimenting with alchemical processes of printing on analog film with non-toxic natural solutions and natural light, creating abstract images with unexpected exposures, textures, and details.
