2025 Design Biennial celebrates the breadth of contemporary design emerging from the MassArt community — where experimentation meets craft, and concept meets form. The exhibition brings together designers and artists whose practices move fluidly across disciplines, spanning furniture design, architecture, communication design, ceramics, and dynamic media.
Each work transforms design into an almost theatrical experience — objects that ask you to pause, to linger, to feel their quiet dramatic voice. Earthy materials and organic forms anchor the exhibition in tactility and presence, while sleek gestures of modernity weave through them, creating a dialogue between the grounded and the futuristic, the handmade and the digital.
Drawing from diverse programs such as Furniture Design, Architecture (M.Arch), the Dynamic Media Institute (DMI), Communication Design, and the Master of Design (MDes), the participating artists reflect MassArt’s commitment to cross-disciplinary inquiry and innovation. Together, they offer a vision of design not only as a means of making, but as a way of sensing the visual rhythm of an artwork, like the steady flow of a river.
