Joseph Sheehan

’17 Furniture Design

I am an artist who creates compelling pieces that resonate with both seasoned craftspeople and the general audience. While I explore various materials, I find myself continually drawn to the expressive qualities of wood. Its diverse array of species and technical possibilities, along with its inherent challenges, captivate me. My creative journey often commences with a simple sketch or idea, which I refine into a cohesive design through iterative processes involving small-scale models and further sketching.

In my recent body of work, I have embraced the art of bent laminations, a technique that unlocks new narratives within my creations. An integral part of my artistic process involves extensive research and experimentation with both unconventional and time-honored techniques. By blending contemporary and traditional practices, I strive to push the boundaries of design and construction, forging a path toward my distinctive aesthetic and vision.
