James Mason

Fashion Design, Associate Provost and Dean of Faculty

And now this…

Before an artist or designer puts pencil to paper, they must have an inspiration.  I’m often inspired by a detail, a color or a silhouette. For this mini capsule collection, I was inspired by the fabric. The texture and the weight and how seemingly fabric and patterns that wouldn’t ordinarily come to together are intentionally paired. Heavy upholstery is mixed with the drapiest of lightweight denim, which was bleached and tied into knots.  Each look is a combination of two looks, which can be worn without their companion coats, jackets, dress and skirt.

James Mason is currently Associate Provost and Dean of Faculty at MassArt, following a year as Interim Provost. Foundation Board director, former Professor of Fashion Design, and MSCA local Chapter President at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.  Mason received his BFA from MassArt (class of ‘81) and his MA from Lesley University of Cambridge (class of ‘13).  He has extensive retail background through Winmil Fabrics, The Fabric Showroom at Brighton Upholstery, and 14 years management with GAP,Inc.  Mason has been a designer for private clientele as well as the collections Fleur, The Warrior Collection, The Worship and Praise Collection, and Collection Dreamin.
