Fish McGill

MFA ’14 DMI

‘JBFM Fence’ is a work envisioned and executed during the summer pandemic lockdown period of 2020. Jeff Bartell and Fish McGill are frequent collaborators and found the opportunity to work together from a distance during that isolating time. Jeff created the nature inspired graphics digitally to the specs of Fish’s own backyard fence. McGill then painted the work en scene. Additionally, the fence has been brought to the gallery, creating a new experiential context for the work. The artists believe the fence is a testament to friendship, relationships between digital and analog, and the power of creativity over long distances or obstacles.

Fish McGill is a double alum of MassArt (BFA ‘04 Studio for Interrelated Media, MFA ‘14 Dynamic Media Institute). At MassArt, Fish is an Associate Professor of Design in the Communication Design Department and the Director of the Dynamic Media Institute, MassArt’s MFA Program in Design. The Gameday Poster Series in this exhibition was led by the New England Patriots’ Digital Design Manager Karina Santos and Fish’s former student Digital Designer Dillon Citarella (BFA ‘20 Communication Design).
