Christina Marcantonio

MFA ’22 Fine Arts Low-Residency

I am an interdisciplinary artist and a costumer by trade, helping tell a story on stage through dress. My practice centers around exploring daily life in and outside the home. I draw inspiration and materials from worn clothing, broken toys, and other artifacts. My work hopes to serve as a connection between the viewer and their own memories of home and daily life.

Discarded Delicates is an accumulation of material explorations woven into a broken laundry basket. Socks have been reclaimed by beads and embroidery. New textiles are knit from strips of workroom cuttings. This piece explores my feelings surrounding the caretaking of myself, my loved ones, and our belongings. At times, the amount of work to be done is overwhelming and completing these tasks becomes burdensome. Chaotic and stuffed to the brim, Discarded Delicates hopes to bring beauty to these labors of love.
