Kristin Beth Powers

MFA ’22 Fine Arts 3D

I am a curator of objects, a choreographer of space, a collector of sounds, exploring an ever-evolving sculptural landscape, looking for resonant frequencies where many feel. Ruminating on the efficacy of words, distortion of language, and the never-ending misinterpretation of communication, I use language to push the dialectic of discourse and emotion.

My work embraces silence, vulnerability, and disorientation. Working with found objects and multiple media, I pair order with chaos, engineering interdependence and balance. Disruption and discomfort interest me in the process of transforming environments, forcing one out of the realm of comfort into a liminal zone, replacing predictability with uncertainty.

Coming into being, falling out of being, containment and openness, consuming and being consumed, this wrestling match between being in and out of control is what fuels my work.
