My practice is a proposal for nonbinary objecthood. I am interested in how the human construct of gender is recapitulated throughout built environments. I consider how human bodies are oriented and physically altered through interactions with the designed world. How do the objects we shape, in turn, shape us? How are we, by extension, arranged by the designers of these objects? Our world isn’t just designed, it is designing. In my work, I offer expanded ways of thinking about body, gender, and self. I create objects that hold multiple orientations. Fluidity is activated through interactivity. Both solitary ways of being, and new ways of holding one another, are reimagined.

Annie Meyer is a woodworker, designer, and craftsperson. Annie holds a BFA in Industrial Design from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and an MFA in 3D Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art. They have shown work in galleries and museums including Wasserman Projects, Fuller Craft Museum, and Cranbrook Art Museum. Annie is Director and Faculty for MassArt’s Furniture Design Certificate Program, and Lecturer at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University.
