Fast Women
An exploration of women who ride, race & wrench
At the turn of the century, women were performing in death-defying attractions like the famed Wall of Death, riding cross country, an active part of motorcycle rallies, races, car shows, and starting women’s only car clubs. Somewhere along the way there was a shift. In a world dominated by men, women became overlooked, misrepresented, or objectified by the industry.
Today we are in the throws of an explosive revival as we see more and more women in unlikely places. Here is the opportunity to redefine how women are portrayed by focusing on the experiences and stories of those who are changing the game and leveling the playing field.

Through a series of photographs, video, and interviews, I have uncovered personal stories of joy, passion, and courage. Traveling coast to coast to connect with the community, my interest for telling the stories of the women behind the machines has grown tenfold. So much so that I myself am part of it from learning how to ride, to owning a bike, and ultimately joining many of these women who inspired me. They have given me the confidence to try new things, learn more, dream big, and imagine a new chapter of life with two wheels. My hope is that this work will shatter stigmas and inspire and empower other women to live boldly.

Kim Maroon is a Boston-based photographer, director, and experience designer. She received an MFA from MassArt’s Dynamic Media Institute.
By integrating video and augmented reality with her photography, Kim is able to bring her subjects to life and immerse and engage viewers through richer storytelling. She has worked for several automotive and lifestyle clients including Infiniti, Harley Enthusiast, Red Bull, and EagleRider. Kim has also exhibited her work at Nemo Design, Mingo Gallery Beverly, and 3S Artspace in Portsmouth.
