Youjin Moon

MFA ’13 Fine Arts 2D

My art practice is an integration of various media, encompassing drawing, painting, photography, and film/video. My background in painting informs the textural approach I apply to filmmaking. I explore how visual experiences can cause an individual’s perception of space to oscillate between reality and imagination. I focus on how the interplay of visual and sonic layers can evoke mental images of dreamlike spaces. By incorporating video footage, painting, and computer graphics, I create improvisational structures of uncanny landscapes. The layered environment navigates realms between inner and outer, micro and macro, and natural and constructed. Through an abstract narrative, I compose a form of visual poetry that evokes a sense of wonder. By depicting imperceptible environments, I hope to challenge our usual patterns of perception.
