Toña Vegas

I am a Miami-based mixed-media artist, born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela—a troubled city within an exuberant tropical landscape. That environment shaped my awareness of the relationship between the natural world, ourselves included, and the systems we create to live within it, an interplay that remains central to my practice.

Through observation of organic elements and digital processes, I uncover patterns that echo across scales: the lattice of a dragonfly’s wing, human skin, the surface of water, markings on stone, the shifting form of clouds. My work reveals this hidden matrix of connections by translating it into diverse materials—perforated paper, metal, fabric, mosaic—transmuting it into new forms.

In another body of work, photography, collage, printing, and mark-making converge in a process that begins in apparent chaos: fragments of photographic imagery collide with Sumi ink and watercolor gestures—different visual languages meeting head-on, forces from different realities in visual conflict. Working intuitively, I let these elements reorganize into unexpected harmonies, mirroring nature’s capacity to generate order from disorder.

At its core, my practice is a meditation on energy. Informed by quantum physics and its vision of the universe as a field of interactions, I explore the bonds between nature, body, and culture—envisioning art as a space of revelation and interconnection.
