Shannon Forrester

Visiting Associate Professor, Graduate Programs

Painting, drawing, and collage, as defined broadly, are the foundations of Shannon Forrester’s artistic practice. These mediums become lenses, mobilized as tools, ideally to be subsequently realized as embodiments, through which sociological, theoretical, and psychological ideas are visualized. Forrester’s paintings often exist in a nearly monumental mythical, symbiotic, symbolic, and richly engaging realm where interior and exterior come together to create a whole. Figures become icons, signifiers, memories, and champions

Dr. Shannon Forrester is an artist-scholar working internationally in the expanded field of painting whose transdisciplinary practice-led research traverses contemporary art, security studies, visual, cultural, and liberatory studies. Forrester has taught graduate and undergraduate students at institutions in the US and UK. Forrester’s artistic research presents a first look at reparative painting practice theory. It has been exhibited in the Kochi-Muziris Biennale collaterals, Volta NY, at A.I.R. Gallery, and presented at academic conferences.
