Martha Rettig (with Sofie Hodara)

Created in 2018, The Pursuit of Happiness is an augmented reality poster exhibition featuring more than 50 letter-pressed American presidential campaign slogans. The posters act as a dataset that portray, in slogan form, the evolution of American values. Augmented reality is used to highlight the sometimes-unsettling and often-preposterous words of American political leaders from the past 200 years. And the project, as a whole, injected a bit of humor into our political climate at the time.
