LAUREN COMERATO

MFA ’25 Fine Arts Low-Residency

I create sculptures and installations that invite viewers into domestic spaces shaped by memory. Using industrial materials like wire, tarps, and silicone caulking paired with traditional fiber techniques such as weaving, crocheting, and beading, I explore the tension and connection between material and memory, labor and identity. My creative process begins with a personal memory rooted in a relationship with a family member. Every thread, texture, and object holds a story. The delicate doilies that once adorned my grandmother’s home embody her warmth and care, while the wire caps from my father’s electrical work truck evoke resilience and labor. Working with these materials brings me closer to their craft while embedding my own story.

Lauren Comerato was born and raised in Framingham, Massachusetts, where she currently resides. Growing up in her father’s childhood neighborhood and across the street from her grandparents, family has always been a core facet of her life, and thus her work. She received her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and is a practicing arts educator teaching a variety of both two and three dimensional art.
