I love the feeling of being immersed in nature – whether it’s a walk deep in the woods, being overtaken by weeds in the back garden or a breathtaking vista in a far off locale. I paint with the intent of creating that feeling of total immersion, but this time in my version of the world. My paintings are life size in scale – surrounding the viewer with flowers, trees, weeds, plants, rocks, dirt. All my work begins as observation of the world that I then develop into a drawing language that describes what I have observed. I mix in natural patterns and intense color relationships on giant unstretched raw canvas, which helps to emphasize the imperfect and tactile nature of my work.
