Gabriela Gamboa

I am a multicultural artist whose work speaks of displacement, identity and the fractured landscapes of un-belonging through photo, video, printmaking, and sound. I explore ideas of fragmentation and the fluidity of time as a way to create abstract narratives that question the boundaries between memory and presence in landscape.

I blend traditional techniques with new media to push the limits of material and form. This allows me to further explore the physicality of displacement, transforming abstract concepts of loss and movement into tactile, visual and auditory experiences.

Interested particularly in the body’s role as a site of both vulnerability and resilience, I use performance as a starting point to inhabit spaces of tension and rupture that will allow me to translate those issues into my work. By engaging the viewer in these personal yet universal narratives, I aim to create moments of shared recognition and reflection, producing work that confronts- but also bridges – emotional and cultural divides inherent in our global, interconnected yet fractured world.
