Damon Burnard

MSAE ’08 Art Education

My paintings explore ambiguity: the comfort and tyranny of pattern; the exuberance and stillness of color; the flatness and depth of lines and shapes; the ambivalence of structures ( wrought from brick or thought ); inside and outside; the poetry of Seeing; the interactions at the very edges of things.

Damon Burnard was born in Sussex, England, and studied painting at Bath Academy of Art, before relocating to the USA in 1991. He has drawn for many newspapers and periodicals, including Private Eye and The Guardian in the UK, and has written and illustrated over twenty five published works for children on both sides of the Atlantic. He earned an MSAE at MassArt in 2008 and currently teaches at Needham High School. He has consistently painted and exhibited his work for forty years.
