MFA ’23 Photography

Matrescence explores the process of becoming a mother and the often invisible labor of caretaking. Through photography and gel image transfer techniques on glass, the work captures the multifaceted nature of the maternal experience. Images of my son and myself merge and separate depending on the viewer’s angle, symbolizing the nuanced and often obscured aspects of maternal life. The transparent and reflective glass panels serve as metaphors for the visibility—or lack thereof—of maternal labor.
