My work is a portrait of my body.
Through paint and print, I utilize observational drawings and marks from my own form to create layered abstract compositions. In these works, I am constantly building and destroying the image, crowding the space with perceptions of my body, erasing through mark, and beginning again. The resulting image, a compilation of obsessive observations, feels like a more accurate representation of how I see myself. The depiction of my body is no longer singular, multiple moments and perspectives are present, challenging each other and complicating the image.
The process of creating these works provides me with invaluable time to sit with how I see myself and the possibilities that can arise from that point of view. I work in collaboration with my body to investigate materials and the formal qualities of paint and print.
The figure and the abstract combine in my exploration of self and materiality resulting in a breadth of open imagery that challenges and excites me.
