“Global World Disorder” is a series of collages that aim to create a temporal imprint of the tumultuous moments of geopolitical instability we encounter. Centered around the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war for personal reasons, Yulia’s work addresses issues of displacement, alienation, and exile—experiences that resonate with a broader audience. In her work, Spiridonova combines and layers images from her personal archive, including photos of friends and family from her life in Moscow and everyday scenes from her life in Boston, Massachusetts. She juxtaposes these images with footage of the war collected from various open sources. “Global World Disorder” seeks to mediate the simultaneous existence of two worlds: one where war is a daily reality, and another where it exists only as distant media echoes. This body of work invites viewers to engage in a nuanced and in-depth dialogue on our perceptions of power and our role in modern society.

Yulia Spiridonova is a contemporary artist working primarily with photography, collage, and installation. Born in Moscow, Russia, she currently resides and works in Boston, Massachusetts. Her art has been exhibited in Russia, the United States, and various countries across Europe. Yulia holds an undergraduate degree from Moscow State University (2008), a post-baccalaureate diploma from Massachusetts College of Art and Design (2014), and an MFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design (2024). She received the Anderson Ranch Scholarship in 2023 and the Abelardo Morell Thesis Prize in 2024.
