Sally Dion’s multimedia practice focuses on extraordinary and ordinary moments in life.  She documents the news of everyday life both on a personal and global level.  Marginalized figures and narratives taken from art, history, and literature. The artist explores the roles and expectations placed on women. Female archetypes—from goddesses to madonnas—fill her monotypes, drawings, and fabric sculptures.  Her most recent work is a process called monotype or monoprint where she inks large plexiglass plates and then draws with small needles attached to ink filled bottles.  It makes a mark as it goes through the pressure of the press that cannot be found elsewhere.  The “Three Madonnas” is not necessarily a religious observation but rather an understanding and perception of motherhood.  We can be majestic even while we wrestle the everyday responsibilities of parenting.
